Week 1 Q4
Dear families,
Welcome back to our last quarter of kindergarten! I hope
you and the students enjoyed a well-deserved break. This quarter, students will
continue their preparation for first grade. Exciting activities and learning
will happen during this last quarter!

What we learn this week!
Spalding: Students reviewed all the phonograms learned in kindergarten
in preparation for the cumulative test oral and written by mid-May. Please
continue practicing at home. Students used their pink notebook to write their
new spelling words/sight words (street, say, come, hand).
Reading
reminders:
- Your child should read to an adult as daily homework.
- Practice sight words as daily homework. Assessments on Wednesdays.
- Minimal goal by the end of fourth quarter, master 100 sight words, but the sky is the limit! Students will grow confidence for first grade when they master the sight words.
Literature: Our poem this week is “The More it Snows”. It was an exciting
week for literature! We read the classic “Winnie the Pooh” book throughout the
week! Each day, students listened to a chapter and worked on their
comprehension packet. Ask your child about the story!
Math: Addition practice is still happening in the
classroom. Students practiced adding numbers within 5 and within 10. Practices
make better! The more practice students have on this skill the better. The
speed of adding is improving and we all know how this will help in future
years.
Science: The Rainforest unit keeps amazing us! This week we studied
interesting facts about the toucan, piranha, and sloth. Like real scientists,
students researched information about the animal, discussed the facts in class,
and finally created their own animal craft.
History/Geography: For history, we studied the American Symbols. Talk to your child about the American Flag, Pledge of Allegiance, and Bold Eagle.
