Week 9 Q
Dear families,
Please enjoy your Spring Break! Students deserved a restful break after this quarter. Enjoy the weather and your time together! Stay healthy and safe.
With appreciation,
Mrs. Bernal
What
we learn this week!
Spalding: We reviewed the 70 phonograms. Students used their pink notebook to write their new spelling words/sight words (had, over, must, make). Please continue reviewing the 70 phonograms in preparation for first grade and cumulative test for fourth quarter. You can drill 10 at a time orally, but must important, you say the sounds and the student will write the phonogram without looking at the card.
Reading
reminders:
- Your child should read to an adult as daily homework.
- Practice sight words as daily homework. Assessments on Wednesdays.
- Minimal goal by the end of fourth quarter, master 100 sight words. (5 sight words a week), but the sky is the limit!
Literature: Our poem this week is “Little Boy Blue”. Our story this week was the classic fairy tale “Cinderella”. We discussed all the story elements and wrote on a Journal. On Thursday, we continued the reading of Mr. Popper’s Penguins.
Math: We are still in our Addition unit. This week,
students added within 5 or 10. They discovered the different ways to make 5, how they
can show a group and add to it.
Science: Students are enjoying learning about the rainforest. We explained the layers of the rainforest, how the rainforest is a habitat for living things, and interesting facts about this amazing place. At the end of the week, students learned about the Red Eyed Tree Frog.
History/Geography: Students reviewed landforms into two categories, land or water, and the animals that live in or nearby. Students review all the definitions for landforms. On Friday, we created our own landform out of clay.
