Week 5 Q3
Dear families,
Mrs. Bernal
What
we learn this week!
Spalding: We introduced the phonograms OUGH, GN, EI. Students used their pink notebook to write their new spelling words/sight words (all, your, you, out). Students will test at the end of the third quarter a total of 55 phonograms in preparation for first grade. Please review and practice all phonograms learned since the beginning of the year, single, double, and three letter phonograms.
Reading
reminders:
- Your child should read to an adult as daily homework.
- Practice sight words as daily homework. Assessments on Wednesdays.
- Minimal goal by the end of third quarter, master 75 sight words. (5 sight words a week), but the sky is the limit!
Literature: Our poem this week is “Little Miss Muffet”. The story
this week was “The Wolf and The Seven Kids. After the reading, students worked
on the sequence of the story. The next day, students identify the characters,
setting, problem, and solution. We continue our reading for Mr. Popper’s
Penguins and lap book. Students worked on their CVC words, when do we use “go
or went”, the “ad” family, and writing in their blue journal.
Math: We compared the lengths of 2 objects to determine which one is longer or shorter. Also, we worked on how to find which object is taller or shorter by comparison. All week we worked with measurements including weight and capacity.
Science: We discussed how to keep ourselves healthy and in good shape. Students learned about the different food groups. Then, we sorted out healthy and unhealthy foods on a chart. These kindergarteners understand how exercise will bring benefits to their health.
History/Geography: Our study on how the Pilgrims were alike or different to us happened this week. Also, we discussed how King George from England wanted to impose taxes on the colonies. Colonies wanted to have their own rules and a leader who understands this new place and live. The discussion brought us to the reason the colonies wanted independence from England. Students learned about the Independence day and why we celebrate the birthday of the United States of America.
