Week 2 Q3
Dear families,
Thank you to all the families that donated supplies for the
Squanto cooking project! For the second semester, these kindergarteners will
work hard to finish with strong foundations for first grade. It is very
important to continue all the routines in place for them to be successful in
their academic progress. Perseverance virtue will be practiced all semester.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bernal
What we learn this week!
Spalding: We introduced the phonograms IGH, ED, WR. Students used their pink notebook to write their new spelling words/sight words (chance, charge, little, are).
Reading
reminders:
- Your child should read to an adult as daily homework.
- Practice sight words as daily homework. Assessments on Wednesdays.
- Minimal goal by the end of third quarter, master 68 sight words. (5 sight words a week), but the sky is the limit!
Literature: Our poem this week is “Hickory, Dickory Dock! We
study the story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”. Students identified all
the story elements and then created a pattern with the characters. We practiced
beginning sounds, action words, and syllables. On Thursday, we continued the
study of “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” and Lap book. Finally, students learned the
saying “A Place for Everything” and discussed the meaning of it.
Math: We used manipulatives for hands on activities and independent practice on their math books. We review the teen numbers from last week and introduced numbers 17 to 20. Students are practicing how to make groups of tens and then count on from ten to figure out the number. These are the foundations for placed value.
Science: What an exciting week for science! Students were
introduced to the Solar System! We read different Solar System books, work on Sun project, and even explore the surface of the moon with all the craters it has. Also,
students were introduced to the moon phases.
History/Geography: We continued with the study of Christopher Columbus. We discussed about his early life, his idea, and his adventurous voyage sailing west on the Atlantic Ocean. Students know where Columbus landed and how this was a big discovery.
