Week 11 Q2
Dear families,
This is the end of the first semester in kindergarten! I am
so proud of the academic progress this group of students have gain!
I wish everybody a safe and restful winter break. Enjoy your
family time and I will see you back in January.
Happy Holidays!
With appreciation,

What
we learn this week!
Notes: Please read during the winter
break at home. Reading shouldn’t be homework, children should read for pleasure.
If possible, review phonograms and sight words.
Spalding: We reviewed all the phonograms learned! More two letters’ phonograms
will be learned next semester. At the end of kindergarten, students must master
70 phonograms.
Reading
reminders:
- Your child should read to an adult as daily homework.
- Practice sight words as daily homework. Assessments on
Wednesdays.
- Minimal goal by the end of second quarter, master 36 sight
words. (5 sight words a week), but the sky is the limit!
Literature: To wrap up this first semester, students study the
story “Casey Jones”. Students created a booklet, and we discussed all the story
elements. On Thursday, students had a blast at the field trip! We saw the play “A
Winnie the Pooh Christmas Tail”.
Math: Review of all the concepts learned.
History/Geography: We reviewed all the continents! Students got their “passport” to travel around the world and learned how different cultures celebrate the holidays. Our first stop was Uganda! We talked about the traditions! Students made their own drum. Next stop was Australia! Students made their own Snowman! Students learned that during the holidays, Australia’s weather is warm, and people celebrate at the beach with food and bathing suits! Finally, we visited Mexico! Students learned about the Posadas celebration, piñatas, and poinsettias. Students made their own wreath to decorate at home.
