Week 7 Q2
Dear families,
Students will work hard in the next weeks to wrap up the second quarter and to show what they have learned. Several assessments will be conducted in the next weeks and we finished some this week. Please continue the school days routines at home so students are well rested and ready to perform at their best. Students should be healthy and well rested so they show us their growth.
With appreciation,
Mrs. Bernal
What
we learn this week!
Spalding: Two letter phonograms UR, NG, EA, were introduced. Remember to underline the two letter phonograms. This marking states that these are two letter phonograms making one sound. We reviewed O and H from the previous first 26 phonograms. Students used their pink notebook to write their new spelling words/sight words (tan, tin, ton, bed). Cumulative test will start soon! It will include 26 single letter phonograms, plus all the two letters’ phonograms taught during the quarter.
Reading reminders:
- Your child should read to an adult as daily homework.
- Practice sight words as daily homework. Assessments on
Wednesdays.
- Minimal goal by the end of second quarter, master 36 sight
words. (5 sight words a week), but the sky is the limit!
Literature: Our poem this week was “Three Blind Mice”! On Monday
we read “King Midas and the Golden Touch”. Students were really engaged with
the reading and impressed with this classic fairy tale. Each student created
their story puppets to practice retelling with their own words. We worked with
the story elements on Tuesday. We talked about ABC order, syllables, and word
families throughout the week. On Friday, we read “The Straw, The Coal, and The
Bean”.
Math: For math, we worked on adding one more to a group of objects. Also, we showed one less by removing one object from a group of objects. Students learned “more than, less than, and equal to” math concepts. At the end of the week, students were assessed on the unit and perform a cumulative test for the first math book.
Science: This week we continued with our five senses study. This
time, we tasted different items (sweet, sour, bitter, salty). Students learned how to identify the different flavors with our taste sense. Also, we use
the “mystery bag” to feel different objects by using our touch sense. Finally, we
discussed how unique our fingerprints are, and worked with different five
senses books and work papers.
History/Geography: Our study of Native Americans continue. We read some nice literature to understand their culture and discussed all the facts we have learned during this unit. In preparation for our Thanksgiving Feast on Tuesday, students created a Native American head dress.
