Week 2 Q4

  Dear families, I n Quarter 4, the students will transition from 5 spelling words a week to 6 words, then 7, 8, 9, 10 words a week. It will be important for you to help your Kindergartner focus on doing quality homework in Spalding every night. Students often remember the spelling of the previous spelling words or how to spell the current word lists, but  it takes practice and consistent review  to understand the 'why' of the markings so that those markings move from short term memory to long term memory. The Cumulative Phonogram test over 55 phonograms will be in the around the last week of April or first of May. Also, students will have a cumulative Spelling test around the same time, and it will be 10 words a day for 10 days - 100 words. One day at a time, one word at a time. Dear families, Welcome back to our last quarter of kindergarten! I hope you and the students enjoyed a well-deserved break. This quarter, students will continue their preparation for first grade. Exciting activities and learning will happen during this last quarter! Mrs. Bernal What we learn this week! Spalding:  Students reviewed all the phonograms learned in kindergarten in preparation for the cumulative test oral and written by mid-May. Please continue practicing at home. Students used their pink notebook to write their new spelling words/sight words ( street, say, come, hand ). Reading reminders: Your child should read to an adult as daily homework. Practice sight words as daily homework. Assessments on Wednesdays. Minimal goal by the end of fourth quarter, master 100 sight words, but the sky is the limit! Dear families, Please enjoy your Spring Break! Students deserved a restful break after this quarter. Enjoy the weather and your time together! Stay healthy and safe. Students used their pink notebook to write their new spelling words/sight words ( had, over, must, make ). Please continue reviewing the 70 phonograms in preparation for first grade and cumulative test for fourth quarter. You can drill 10 at a time orally, but must important, you say the sounds and the student will write the phonogram without looking at the card.   Dear families, We are starting to wrap up the third quarter! Students will celebrate all they have achieved by showing their knowledge on their cumulative tests. New learning will continue as well. Mrs. Bernal What we learn this week! Notes:  Field Day is approaching on Wednesday March 5th! Students can wear comfortable sport clothes, closed shoes/tennis shoes (no flip flops, or lightning shoes), no spaghetti tank tops, and no pop culture please. Students need a water bottle . The PSO will provide the snack for the students, so do not send a snack. No backpacks for field day! Please apply sunscreen. Students can wear a cap too.   What we learn this week! Notes: Spalding:  We introduced the phonograms SI, TI, CI. Students used their pink notebook to write their new spelling words/sight words ( today, look, did, like ). Students started their cumulative test this week. We are not finished. We will continue testing next week . Please review and practice all phonograms learned since the beginning of the year, single, double, and three letter phonograms. Reading reminders: Your child should read to an adult as daily homework. Practice sight words as daily homework. Assessments on Wednesdays.   Dear families, In preparation for the 55 phonograms cumulative test, please drill orally, but must important say the phonogram without showing it to your child and they need to write it. This will help your child retrieve the information from their memory. Reinforce handwriting and underline the two letter phonograms so your child can have all the points possible. In another note, students are not allowed to bring any medications to school and self-administer, that includes cough drops. You can visit the front desk to provide the nurse with the medications.
